October 06, 2017

On Friday, October 6, TRECA Digital Academy students visited Capitol Square, a complex that includes the Ohio Statehouse, Senate Building, and the Atrium. Students were able to tour several buildings and learn about the history, architecture, and the legislative process. The tour began in the Map Room and connects the Senate Building and the Statehouse. In the Map Room, students were able to see the famous floor map that depicts the state’s 88 counties using six different types of marble from around the world. Students then visited the Rotunda, which has been the site of many gubernatorial inaugurations. Students toured the Senate Chamber where senators meet to discuss and vote on legislation, and they also saw the Governor’s Office, now mainly used as a ceremonial office. The Ohio Statehouse represents one of America’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and is one of the oldest working statehouses in the United States. Thank you to all the TRECA students and families that joined us on the tour!
