Digital Academy students visit the Ohio Caverns

October 23, 2018

Posted in Events

On Tuesday, October 23, TRECA Digital Academy students toured America’s most colorful caverns; the Ohio Caverns in West Liberty, OH.

Students and families took a mile long, 50-minute walk through the caverns. Students learned about local geology and the unique cavern environment, which remains at 54 degrees year-round with humidity above 90%. We learned that the caverns were formed thousands of years ago when an underground river cut through ancient limestone and later filled with crystal stalactites, stalagmites, and other formations. Students walked through various passageways and saw the “Palace of the Gods,” the “Crystal King,” and the “Old Town Pump.” They also saw the “Big Room,” which is an open chamber with an array of crystal formations, and saw historic graffiti that was left behind by early explorers. We had an amazing experience at the Ohio Caverns. Thank you to all our students and their families who attended!
