TRECA Digital Academy celebrates its Board members during School Board Recognition Month.

January is School Board Recognition Month, and TRECA would like to thank their amazing school board members for their service to the school! School board members are ordinary people who have an extraordinary dedication to our public schools. Board members make personal sacrifices, assure local control over public schools, and help govern public schools.

School Board Recognition Month is a time to show appreciation and to begin to better understand how school board members work together to provide leadership for our schools. The school board works closely with parents, educational professionals, and community members to create the educational vision we want for our students. It formulates goals, defines results, and sets the course for an educational program that ensures all students have the resources they need to succeed. The school board is accountable to the public, and regularly oversees assessments of the district’s students, staff, and programs. Community members are always welcome to attend Board meetings. Upcoming meeting times can be found at treca.org/about. Let’s learn a little more about the community members that serve on TRECA’s school board.

Kate Fisher, Board President, currently runs Redbrick Social Media, a company that provides digital marketing services for businesses. Kate has also been part of the leadership advisory board for MarionMade!, served as Marion City Council President, and served as project manager for a Lois J. Fisher and Associates building project in Marion.

Jim Craycraft, Board Vice President for 20-21, has extensive experience in schools, having served as superintendent of Ridgedale Local Schools, Tri-Rivers Career Center, Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools, Fairbanks Local Schools, and Elgin Local Schools, and has worked as a consultant for Tiffin City Schools. Jim was also part of the Marion 200 Speaker Series, speaking about the myriad changes in education.

Ray Funk, Board Member and Vice President for 19-20, is an educator with over 37 years of experience, the last 17 of which he spent as superintendent of Carey Exempted Village Schools.

Fran Voll, Board Member, is a Marion native who served as principal at his alma mater, Marion Catholic High School, for 11 years. In addition to being a very successful basketball coach at various institutions, Fran has served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame, served on Bowling Green State University's Board of Trustees, and been involved in the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce as an advocate for education.
