On February 23, TRECA Digital Academy students visited Stratford Ecological Center.
Stratford Ecological Center is a 236-acre certified organic working farm. Students toured the barns to see cows, sheep, goats, llamas, and rabbits before hiking half a mile to the sugar shack. On the tour through the sugar bush, students learned how to find maple trees, how to tap a maple tree and they learned about the evaporation process in the sugar shack. Maple sap is made mostly of sugar and water, which runs through the tree best when the weather is freezing at night and warm in the morning. Students tasted fresh sap and maple syrup too - a delicious end to the trip!
