On September 12, TRECA Digital Academy students visited The Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH.
The Wilderness Center is a nature center and land conservancy dedicated to inspiring and nurturing a connection between people and nature through habitat conservation and environmental education. Students bean the trip with a short hike through the woods to a pond, where they used dip nets to catch macroinvertebrates such as tadpoles, water beetles, whirly gigs, clams, snails, dragonfly larvae, and mayflies. Students then identified what they caught and calculated the water quality based on the macroinvertebrates that they found. Families also saw frogs, snapping turtles, and the resident bat.
