On Friday, June 1, TRECA Digital Academy students explored one of Ohio's hidden gems: the Ohio Bird Sanctuary (OBS) in the beautiful forests of Mansfield, OH. The location is a former Boy Scouts camp and is home to over 60 different species of birds! It's an amazing non-profit organization that acts as a living museum and nature preserve focused on our avian friends. It supports the rehabilitation and care for Ohio native birds, and it works to protect some of the natural habitats these birds require.
Students started the day with up-close introductions to two of OBS' residents: Athena and Monty, a barn owl and peregrine falcon. Knowledgeable experts shared all about the two birds and provided lots of valuable information about birds of all breeds. After the Q&A, students were guided around the multi-acre property for an instructional nature hike and tour of the aviaries.
Along with avian studies, students learned about native plants, seeds, trees, and other forest critters. The day concluded with a packed lunch amongst classmates. It was busy day, but fun was had by all!Facebook Share Twitter Tweet
