Digital Academy students tour the Ohio Statehouse

Posted in Events

On Friday, October 6, TRECA Digital Academy students visited Capitol Square, a complex that includes the Ohio Statehouse, Senate Building, and the Atrium. Students were able to tour several buildings and learn about the history, architecture, and the legislative process. The tour began in the Map Room and connects the Senate Building and the Statehouse. In the Map Room, students were able to see the famous floor map that depicts the state’s 88 counties using six different types of marble from around the world. Students then visited the Rotunda, which has been the site of many gubernatorial inaugurations. Students toured the Senate Chamber where senators meet to discuss and vote on legislation, and they also saw the Governor’s Office, now mainly used as a ceremonial office. The Ohio Statehouse represents one of America’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture and is one of the oldest working statehouses in the United States. Thank you to all the TRECA students and families that joined us on the tour!

Digital Academy students visit Union Ridge Wildlife Center

Posted in Events

On Friday, September 22, TRECA Digital Academy students visited the Union Ridge Wildlife Center in Wilkesville, OH. The center is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, and the field trip provided an inside-look at what it takes to run a wildlife center! Students went on a three-hour walking tour where they learned the difference between wild and domesticated animals, how and why wildlife rescue centers are necessary, and more! On the tour they met many of the center’s furry residents, including Gumby the camel, Jimmy the bald eagle, and Noah, a 2-year-old tiger. After the tour, students split into groups for hands-on learning activities that involved dissecting owl pellets, making a magic book about what they learned, and completing a bird beak adaptation lab. It was a great experience for our students and families! Thank you to the Union Ridge Wildlife Center for having us!

Student earns associate degree during her junior year with TRECA!

Posted in Stories

Jessica Poiry is a returning student in her senior year with TRECA. She discovered the College Credit Plus program her freshman year. It was with the help of TRECA, her counselor, and admissions at Owens Community College that she was able to obtain her General Associate of Arts at the end of her junior year with TRECA. She is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree through BGSU in conjunction with TRECA’s College Credit Plus, all while still studying to earn her high school diploma! Jessica explored other high schools to enroll in while working toward college degrees, and she found that TRECA was the most organized and efficient. She also found that she would be able to complete more semester hours while attending TRECA than any of the other high schools she was considering. Jessica plans to complete her bachelor’s in pre-law at BGSU and hopes to go on to study law in Indiana. Way to go Jessica!

Back to School Bash 2017: That’s a wrap!

Posted in Events

At TRECA, we kick-off the school year with some fun by hosting Back to School Bashes at each one of our regional offices. This year, we had over 500 students and families attend! Students were able to meet their teachers and fellow classmates and received some swanky TRECA swag, including a backpack and t-shirt! There were tasty refreshments and also hands-on support for any technical or beginning-of-the-year housekeeping items. A big thank you to all who attended! We’re looking forward to another great school year together.
